Cherry trees

Vignola – located in the province of Modena – is the beginning of the so-called “Food and Wine Trail” and a Renaissance town in the Po plain, that has been celebrating the production of outstanding cherry trees variety for over 40 years.

During the Festival the entire town is “blooming-cherry-trees” themed with events, concerts, exhibitions, peculiar Restaurants menus, tasting sessions and related activities to enjoy. The costume parade, which is set in the 16th century, is the most important event that celebrates the blossoming of cherry trees.

Do you know any better way to celebrate spring  than with flowering cherry trees? In Vignola near Modena, they got the point and this year they will organize the 44th edition of the Cherry tree blossom festival.

Lying between river and hills, Vignola is famous for its cherries. Walking along the streets of the town you can visit important monuments, such as the fortress and the spiral staircase designed by architect Vignola.

Rich in history and architectural remains of great value, starting with the famous castle, Vignola has been the birthplace of famous historical figures such as Jacopo Barozzi Vignola and Ludovico Antonio Muratori.

It is worth a visit the interesting castle, richly decorated inside. The building of medieval origin underwent many changes until, in the fifteenth century, was converted into a residence by the Family of Contrari. In 1507 the castle passed to the Family Boncompagni Ludovisi until the middle of the last century.

Every spring the town of Vignola offers a full program of cultural events as part of the cherry tree blossom festival.

This year, the town centre becomes a stage for concerts, events and parades of floats inspired by the blooming until the 15th of April. Very interesting are the farm carts decked out with flowers, parading through the streets.

Among the events you can enjoy decorated farm carts parades, trader’s market, hobbies and handicrafts along roads and arcades of downtown.
And also “Vignola fiorita” in P.za dei Contrari and P.za Boncompagni where producers and traders of flowers show and sell any kind of flower and plant. You can also visit Palazzo Barozzi.
This show is really worth it, please contact me for more info to plan your trip ;)
